Yellow Dock is a herb we wild craft and let grow in our gardens as a supposed weed. It is not invasive and it is quite delightful to “play” with. Our tincture is double infused as we love to add it to many formulas for its’ wonderful properties.
The root is considered to be a tonic-like herb that has been used to cleanse the toxic waste from the system and it helps to relieve virtually all disorders associated with impurities in the blood. It promotes clear, healthy skin and alleviates hives, pimples, boils, eczema, psoriasis, and acne. It is an excellent blood builder, and its iron content is easily digestible. It has been useful for anemia and iron-deficiency symptoms.n medicinal lore,
Yellow dock root has been held to be a blood purifier for some time. Within this belief, many herbalists use it in treating rheumatism, blood diseases, and chronic diseases of the skin such as psoriasis and eczema. Herbalists also frequently use it in preventing anemia or in regulating hormones. Some reports have been made as well of it being used in such extreme cases as the treatment of the bleeding of the lungs. Some study has also shown that the root can be used as a laxative, or even in eliminating intestinal parasites from the digestive system.
In folk-lore, yellow dock has been in the affairs of business and money. The tea from the boiled roots was also rubbed on the doorknobs and floors of businesses to ‘draw’ customers. Some even washed their coins in it to ‘draw’ more money to their pocketbooks. There is the belief that it can also ‘draw’ love. The lovelorn were instructed to dig a root of the curly dock, dress it in a similar manner as the one they had affection for and carry this doll for a month. (Now comes the weird part)….after carrying this doll for a month, they were instructed to chop up the root and boil it in water. When this potion cooled, the lovelorn was to wash their entire body in it. This would ‘draw’ the object of their desire to them forever.
Its rich iron content helps to enrich blood quality and relieve anemia. The blood cleansing properties of Yellow Dock make it an outstanding tonic for healthy skin and virtually all disorders associated with impurities in the blood, including rheumatic conditions, glandular tumors, swellings and lymph gland enlargement. Yellowdock has a stimulating effect on the liver and the gallbladder. It has been used to treat jaundice, hepatitis and other liver disorders. Its laxative effects promote good colon health, easing constipation, clearing bodily wastes and improving skin eruptions caused by constipation. As a blood cleanser, it is often used for the treatment of skin diseases such as psoriasis, herpes eruptions, eczema, boils, hives and acne.
The herb has been added to tooth preparations to improve spongy gums and to gargles to relieve laryngitis.
